Originally from Wisconsin, I've been taking photos of the world around me since I was a child. From family vacations to household objects, I always looked for interesting perspectives in my everyday surroundings. After learning traditional photography in a black and white dark room setting, I came to Boston to study Photojournalism and Art History at Boston University.
I started my professional career as a staff photographer at Gatehouse Media’s weekly newspapers in the Metro Boston area. While there I earned recognition from the New England Press Association with awards for audio photo slideshows and editorial photography in sports and portraiture. I have since moved into other areas of the industry, but continue my love of documentary-style photography in my free time.
Even in my editorial work, I have always gravitated toward the study of natural light, and the shadows and patterns it creates. Light and shadow can change the everyday details that are often overlooked into stunning works of art. Strong lines and unusual viewpoints are also themes in my work, as is the beautiful and urban environment of Boston. I often spend weekend afternoons out with my camera in various areas of the city to find new images in familiar places.
